The language of patterns
Life moves in patterns. Breath, language, music, cooking — even the way we think and move through our days — all are patterned. When we’re anxious, patterns can ground us. When we feel stuck, breaking a pattern can awaken us.
Nature teaches this beautifully. It creates patterns — and then breaks them. Every flower carries a genetic code that shapes its petals, color, and scent. But through mutation — a break in the pattern — something new appears. Some changes fade, others thrive. Without mutation, there would be no evolution.
Each generation breaks the patterns of the one before. Some people age young, others stay young into old age. Often, the difference lies in our willingness to release old patterns and rediscover ourselves anew.
Listening to the body is learning this language — the one that knows when to repeat and when to reimagine.
Real balance is not rigid; it's a creative flow — responding to the present moment from an intuitive place.
Let your “yes” come from within.
Let your “no” be an act of care.
And trust that the wisdom of your body is always on your side.
My story of imbalance, and learning to listen
My own relationship with balance has been shaped by years of struggle — not with performance or ambition, but with health and fear. I was born with heart and lung conditions and raised with immense care by a loving mother. But her protectiveness also came with an undercurrent of fear — a belief that I was fragile, at risk, always needing to be careful.
That belief took root in me. It became a quiet but constant anxiety about my body, an internal narrative that I was always one step away from illness. For a while, it turned into hypochondria. And then, like many do, I swung to the opposite extreme — pushing my body beyond its limits, ignoring its cues, proving I was strong. But that didn’t work either. I would end up sick, again and again.
The pendulum between overprotection and overexertion became its own pattern. I had to learn — slowly, humbly — how to feel the difference between the voice of fear in my mind, and the voice of wisdom in my body.
I had to learn to ask:
Is this a real boundary… or a reaction?
Is this discomfort a signal to stop, or a sign I’m stretching into growth?
This learning never ends. But through it, I’ve gained something lasting: a relationship with the living intelligence of my body — an inner guide that speaks in sensation, rhythm, tension, ease.
The body lives in the present
What disconnects us from our bodies is our mind’s attachment to old patterns. We like to feel in control — to rely on what’s familiar, what once worked, what feels safe. But this attachment makes us rigid. It disconnects us from the uniqueness of the present moment.
The body, by contrast, doesn’t live in memory or theory. It lives here. Now.
It renews itself constantly. It adapts. It responds to life directly — not through thought, but through sensation.
Listening to your body is a way of breaking the pattern.
Of stepping out of who you were… and into who you’re becoming.
A simple practice
Next time you're facing a decision, big or small, try this:
Think of one of the alternatives you’re considering. Imagine moving in that direction. Then pause.
What does your body feel?
Is there a tightening, or an opening? A lightness, or a pull?
That felt sense — often below words — is your compass.
You don’t have to explain it. Just notice it.
Then take the next step… from there.
